You put on your best dress,
You get your hair done,
Standing in the middle of your room
Staring at yourself,
You feel confident,
Your smile is bright,
You feel beautiful,
Your eyes darling, they shine.
You get out of the car and walk into the party,
Suddenly everyone is looking at you,
At every inch of you,
You start questioning yourself,
Standing in the middle of this room,
Amidst people looking breathtakingly beautiful,
Your confidence breaks,
You feel insecure,
Your smile is fake,
Your eyes, darling…they hurt.
You don’t enjoy anything,
You question your choices,
You catch your reflection,
And you are filled with hatred,
Hate for your body, your skin,
You hair and your freckles,
But to me darling, you are the prettiest ever,
How do I tell you
That it’s all in your head?
You rush back to your car,
To be in the middle of your room,
To feel confident again,
Away from the judging eyes,
Away from your insecure mind,
But you fail to see,
That someone was watching you all night,
Waiting for the right moment to come and speak,
All the girls with him where jealous of you,
Because to him you were the prettiest ever,
Just like you are to me.
Beautiful poem. Let me think. It seems like you are writing about a girl you love, or about yourself, and she is going to a party, and her boyfriend will be there….dream, fact, or fiction, It’s beautiful. . Will be back to visit. I met you at StephJ’s party. This is Miriam at https://theshowersofblessing.wordpress.com/2016/09/16/mt-st-helens/

Good imagination!! When I took a writing class, I learned that observation and imagination are very important in the fictional writing, because it makes your writing so real that people can related. I could imagine myself in your poem as the mom looking at my daughter getting ready to go to a party with her boyfriend (she is married now, in the picture of my post above). Well done for your poem!!

This was truly wonderful! I love your writing style in general, but this really made me think about confidence and failing to see what might have been right in front of you – the fact that you are always noticed even when you think other shine out brighter than you! This reminded me of a book I’ve just read, ‘Eleanor and Park’ by Rainbow Rowell! ❤ 🙂
