When Fear Creates Hate

I just watched a debate where they discussed the many ways politicians try to fight back against terrorism. There were two men and two women in that panel – all middle-aged and white.

The first point of discussion was: The Burkini Debate. Are we allowed to tell women what to wear and what not to wear? Are we allowed to take away a part of their identity? Obviously the answer is no. The men were not so sure about that though. How dare they cover their faces? How dare they live in a different country but not adapt to ‘the social norm’? How dare they openly support something we’re all scared of?

You would think they’re not well-educated people. You would think they just don’t know better – but they fucking do. Even the idea…
